June 2024, Part 6: What is the traditional "Petrykivka" decorative painting that adorns the Ukrainian restaurant "Zhyto"?

When you step into Zhyto, a Ukrainian restaurant in Wink Aichi, you'll be greeted by a unique interior. Two distinctive features are two large paintings on the walls, made using the traditional Ukrainian "Petrykivka" decorative technique, and a vase with wheat in it, also painted with "Petrykivka" on the table. "Petrykivka," a traditional Ukrainian painting technique that is registered as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, creates a unique atmosphere in the restaurant.

June 2024, Part 6: What is the traditional "Petrykivka" decorative painting that adorns the Ukrainian restaurant "Zhyto"?

The two large paintings using "Petrykivka" technique, as well as the vases also decorated with "Petrykivka", were created by Natalia, an artist of Petrykivka living in Toyohashi.
Natalia is from Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine and came to Japan in 2014. She has now launched "Petrykivka Japan" and is working as an artist to introduce the traditional techniques of Petrykivka painting.
"Petrykivka" painting is a technique that is said to have originated in a small village in the Dnieper region of Ukraine, and is now registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Why not visit the Ukrainian restaurant Zhyto and enjoy the works of Petrykivka paint artist Natalia?
