Home --- Topics --- October 2024 Part 8: Managers are often superstitious
Business owners are often superstitious. Business goes through ups and downs. It's not surprising that when things go wrong, you want to cling to some kind of superstition. Some people are overly concerned with feng shui and fortune telling. Some people are very knowledgeable about jinxes and superstitions. Some people are avid visitors to shrines and temples. Some people collect amulets, talismans, and accessories. It's good for business owners to be concerned about feng shui and fortune telling, but it's not good to rely too much on superstition.
If you leave the toilet dirty, money will run out. When you go to a business meeting, you should not wear socks of a certain color. If the money in your wallet is not neatly arranged, money will only go out and not come in.
Have you ever heard a story like this before? Some business managers are very knowledgeable about these kinds of superstitions.
Some managers consult with feng shui masters or fortune tellers on a weekly basis. Others buy several books on feng shui and fortune telling and study them diligently.
Some people are enthusiastic about visiting shrines and temples. They thoroughly research shrines and temples that have legends that say that visiting them will improve your luck with money or eliminate financial worries, and then they continue to visit such shrines and temples.
Some of them seem more like superstition experts than business people.
Management involves a series of risky decisions. Each decision comes with the weight of responsibility as a manager. One wrong move could send the company into bankruptcy and leave you with huge debts. You could lose many of your employees and be held responsible.
It is perhaps not surprising that managers, who have to make various decisions under stressful circumstances, tend to become superstitious.
Feng shui and fortune telling are not necessarily superstitions. Rather, since there is a limit to what can be determined by human intuition, it may be a good idea to refer to the advice of feng shui masters and fortune tellers for your business management.
However, relying too much on them is not good. It is good to refer to superstitions and listen to the advice of feng shui masters and fortune tellers, but relying solely on them will lead to poor management. Managers should make comprehensive decisions by listening to the voices of customers, employees on the front lines, shareholders and other stakeholders.
