February 2025: Europe must stop hypocrisy in combating global warming

It has been almost three years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. However, there are still countries in Europe that are trying to rely on gas supplies from Russia. Among the countries that continue to buy gas from Russia, there are politicians who want to benefit Russia, the invader, and force Ukraine, which was invaded, to compromise. When we look at Europe's dependence on Russian gas supplies, we can see the hypocrisy of Europe's measures to combat global warming.

February 2025: Europe must stop hypocrisy in combating global warming

Global warming has been a major issue facing humanity for the past few decades, and has been much talked about in the mass media. Various political considerations are involved in this issue, and there are quite a few people who are skeptical, leading to many debates every day.
The political maneuvering and debate is still ongoing, but the general direction of this issue can be summarized as follows:
1:In recent years, the earth has been warming.
2:Global warming is caused by human activity.
3:Activities that emit carbon dioxide in particular cause global warming.
4:To combat global warming, we must reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Thermal energy sources such as coal and oil are said to contribute significantly to global warming.
Activists who are calling global warming a major problem primarily argue that we should stop mining and using coal, oil, and other energy sources and switch to nuclear, wind, and solar power.
France is a country that relies heavily on nuclear power, and the issue of "global warming" may be a good opportunity to promote nuclear power. However, in other countries, there is a lot of opposition to the expansion of nuclear power generation, and the current situation is that it is difficult to meet energy demand by simply increasing solar and wind power.
Under these circumstances, European countries have increased their reliance on Russian gas supplies. By buying gas from Russia, European countries can avoid mining coal and oil themselves. In reality, the gas is being mined in Russia, so it is not helping to prevent global warming, as it is simply not being mined in Europe. Therefore, buying gas from Russia can be said to be hypocritical in terms of global warming prevention measures.
In February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On March 2nd of the same year, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops, with Japan voting in favor. However, there were politicians in some European countries who sought to give benefits to Russia, the invader, and pressure the invaded Ukraine into compromise. Looking at these, it seems that the promotion of measures to combat global warming and the dependence of these countries on Russian gas supplies are influencing these actions.
In order to stop Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Europe should break away from its dependence on Russian gas supplies. Europe itself needs to make an effort to stop its hypocrisy in combating global warming and be reborn as a Europe that does not need Russian gas.
