Maibara city is a city of mountains, clear streams and forests located in the northeastern part of Shiga prefecture. There is Ibukiyama in the eastern part of the city and Unzen Mountain in the south east. Forest occupies more than 60% of the city area, and a river flowing from there flows into Lake Biwa.
It is an area attractive as rich nature and a sightseeing area where historic sites were left.
