2002 Euro adopted as currency
2003 The name of the country is changed to "Serbia/Montenegro".
2004 Montenegro applies for WTO membership
2006 Declared independence as the Republic of Montenegro. United Nations membership
2007 New constitution adopted. Change country name to Montenegro
2008 Kosovo declares independence. Montenegro recognizes Kosovo's independence. Serbia does not approve, protesting to Montenegro
2017 NATO accession
It is an independent democratic sovereign republic. The president is the head of state. The president proposes a candidate for prime minister to parliament. The parliament is unicameral.
