Overview of Modern and Contemporary History of Afghanistan

1838-42 First Afghan War (British forces invade. Afghanistan is pacified once, King Shah Shujah is restored to the throne. Afterwards, British forces withdraw. King Shah Shujah is killed.)
1878-80 Second Afghan War. Afghanistan becomes a protectorate, leaving diplomatic powers in Afghanistan to Britain
