Location

It occupies most of the India plate in the central south of the Eurasian Continent. It is bounded by the Indian Ocean to the south, the Arabian Sea to the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal to the southeast. It is bordered by Pakistan to the west, China, Nepal and Bhutan to the north, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. Sri Lanka lies to the south and east across the Palk Strait, and the Maldives Islands lie to the south and west across the Indian Ocean.
