1900 occupation by France. Becomes Chad province, part of French Equatorial Africa

1960 Independence from France
1963 Prohibition of political parties. Northern Muslims Launch Violent Opposition
1966 Northern riots escalate into full-blown guerrilla warfare
1973 French forces back the government, rebels in the north continue guerrilla warfare with arms supplied by Libya. Libya invades the Aozou region
