It is bordered by Kenya to the east, South Sudan to the north, Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, Rwanda to the southwest and Tanzania to the south.

1958 Uganda is granted internal autonomy
1962 Independence
1963 becomes a republic
1966 Obote staged a coup and was promoted to president
1971 Obote downfall. Coup by Amin
1972 Border clash with Tanzania
1978 Invade Tanzania
1979 Tanzania invades Uganda. President Amin's downfall. After Roulet took office, he quickly fell from power. Binaiza becomes president
1980 President Binaiza is overthrown. After the election, Obote returns to the presidency
